Passenger Dies in Broadside Crash on Del Lago Boulevard in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA (September 2, 2019) – One person was killed and three others were injured following a broadside crash Monday afternoon in Escondido.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Del Lago Boulevard, an access road above 15 Freeway.
Escondido police say a black Jaguar XK6 exited the freeway at a high rate of speed and ran a red light. It then broadsided a white Toyota Avalon that was traveling westbound on Del Lago Boulevard.
As a result, the female front-seat passenger in the Avalon, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
The driver of the Avalon, a 42-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.
Paramedics transported the 81-year-old male driver of the Jaguar to Palomar Medical Center in critical condition. A 51-year-old female passenger in the Jaguar was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
Northbound and southbound Del Lago HOV off-ramps were closed due to the crash, according to Caltrans.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
