Big Rig Involved in Deadly Crash on Highway 152 in Los Banos
LOS BANOS, CA (January 14, 2020) – One person was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Los Banos.
The crash happened a little after 4:00 p.m. on Highway 152 near Highway 33, just east of San Luis Reservoir.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Volkswagen sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 52. For unknown reasons, it crossed the dirt median and into the path of the big rig. The two vehicles collided.
The impact of the crash caused the Volkswagen to spin into the center median where it became fully engulfed in flames. The front axle of the car became detached and was thrown into the highway where it struck the front of a 2015 Nissan.
The big rig continued in a southeasterly direction off the roadway where it collided with an exit sign and a barbed wire fence.
As a result, the driver of the sedan was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a 40-year-old man.
Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted the big rig driver to a hospital with major injuries.
A ground ambulance took the Nissan driver to Los Banos Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We also wish the injured victims a swift and steady recovery.
