Woman Dies After Head-On Crash on Route 367 in St. Louis County

St. Louis County, MO (July 19, 2024) – A violent overnight crash on Route 367 in Bellefontaine Neighbors on Friday morning left one person dead and severely injured two others, including a young child.

Investigators reported a head-on collision on Route 367 between Interstate 270 and Chambers Road early Friday morning, causing significant damage to both vehicles involved.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is leading the investigation. Corporal Dallas Thompson stated that the crash was reported just after 3 a.m. 

Friday morning. The incident involved a black Buick Encore and a maroon Chevy Malibu.

According to the MSHP crash report, the Malibu was traveling south on 367 when it crossed the center line and collided with the northbound Encore. 

Thompson confirmed that the driver of the Encore, a 49-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was accompanied by a 12-year-old passenger.

The 25-year-old driver of the Malibu and the 12-year-old passenger were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 

The MSHP report noted that the deceased woman was wearing a seatbelt, but the other driver was not.

The cause of the Malibu crossing the center line remains unknown. 

The area lacks barricades or any obstacles that would prevent a vehicle from crossing into oncoming traffic.
