1 Dead and 2 Hurt in Salinas Car Accident on Highway 101
SALINAS, CA (June 20, 2019) – A man died while two others suffered injuries in a car accident on Highway 101 on June 19.
The 31-year-old Gonzales man drove a black BMW with a 25-year-old female passenger Wednesday morning southbound on Highway 101. According to the CH, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle north of Potter Road.
The vehicle steered into the northbound lanes of Highway 101 and struck a Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep also lost control, struck traffic signs and stopped in a southbound lane of the highway, blocking one lane.
As a result, the Jeep driver suffered minor injuries received treatment at Natividad Medical Center. Meanwhile, the passenger of the Jeep didn’t suffer any injury.
The BMW went into the northbound lanes until it crashed into an iron fence in front of Big W Sales on the corner of Highway 101 and Rosehart Way. It eventually landed on its roof. The BMW driver died at the scene while responders transported his passenger to Natividad Medical Center with minor injuries.
Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors in the collision.
The southbound lane have since reopened.
