Police Still Searching for the Child After Crash on Highway 75 in Sherman
Sherman, TX (December 26, 2024) – Emergency crews in Sherman continue their search for an 8-year-old girl who went missing after a Christmas Eve crash on Highway 75, marking their third consecutive day of efforts.
Search operations resumed at 7 a.m. on Thursday. According to police, an SUV carrying six people crashed on Highway 75 while traveling from Durant, Oklahoma, to McKinney, Texas, on Christmas Eve morning.
Authorities suspect the SUV hydroplaned due to heavy rain in the area, causing it to slide into a ditch where the water carried it away.
Rescue crews successfully extricated the vehicle’s occupants. One person lost their life, and the young girl was swept away by the creek.
Of the four survivors, two required hospitalization and were discharged on Wednesday.
Sherman Police warn that rain and storms on Thursday could temporarily suspend search operations.
They have committed to resuming efforts as soon as conditions allow. Multiple local and state agencies, including Texas Task Force 2, are actively assisting in the search.
Police have not released the names of the missing girl or her family. Authorities emphasize their commitment to maintaining realistic expectations while continuing to hope for a positive outcome.
“We have not stopped hoping for a miracle,” stated Sherman Police Lt. Sam Boyle. “The family searching for their little girl remains at the forefront of our thoughts.”
Officials urge anyone with information related to the crash to contact 903-892-7290. They are not accepting donations to avoid diverting focus from the active search.
Rescue crews remain dedicated to locating the missing child and supporting her family through this challenging time.
