Rollover Crash on Alto Drive in La Mesa Kills Passenger and Badly Injures Driver
LA MESA, CA (February 3, 2020) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured following a rollover crash Monday afternoon in La Mesa.
The crash happened around 3:47 p.m. at Alto Drive and La Cruz Drive, just west of Mt. Helix.
According to the CHP, a 2003 Lexus ES300 sedan drifted off the south edge of a private driveway. It overturned, plunged several hundred feet down a steep hill, crossed Altito Way and landed in the back patio area of a home.
As a result, the passenger, a 94-year-old woman, died at the scene. The driver, a 92-year-old man, was trapped in the car. Paramedics rushed him to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with serious injuries.
Authorities estimated the car ended up roughly 300 feet down the hillside from where it went off the driveway, CHP said.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
