Fatal Rollover Crash on Interstate 5 in Mount Shasta
Mount Shasta, CA (August 25, 2020) – Tuesday morning, a 47-year-old man died, and a 46-year-old female driver, both from Weed sustained injuries after a rollover crash on Interstate 5.
The incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. on August 25.
CHP says a 4-Runner was travelling southbound on I-5 at 75 to 78 miles per hour. The vehicle travelled onto the right gravel shoulder just south of Louie Road before continuing out of control across the southbound lanes and overturning several times in the dirt centre median.
The man was not wearing a seatbelt and fully ejected from the passenger seat. The woman sustained minor injuries and transported to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta.
Police say alcohol or drug impairment is not suspected. Further investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Yreka Area CHP officer Moxness at (530) 842-0530.
