1 Dead and 1 Injured in Fontana Pedestrian Accident on 10 Freeway
FONTANA, CA (January 21, 2020) – A person died and another sustained injuries in a pedestrian accident on 10 Freeway in Fontana on January 16.
At around 4:19 a.m., a 2003 silver Toyota Corolla traveled on the off-ramp on eastbound 10 Freeway to Citrus Avenue in the No. 1 lane. The Corolla drove at a speed of 40 mph while it approached a male pedestrian. Meanwhile, the walking pedestrian on the off-ramp got hit by the Corolla. As a result, the pedestrian sustained blunt force trauma and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
His identity remains unreleased due to pending family notification. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old male Corolla driver from Fontana sustained lacerations to his face and hands. He received treatment at Kaiser Hospital.
Authorities issued a sig-alert for the Citrus off-ramp at around 4:46 a.m. and canceled it by 7:22 a.m.
It’s still unclear whether the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the collision.
