Car Catches Fire after Crashing into Big Rig on 15 Freeway in San Diego, Fatality Reported
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 15, 2019) – One person died and another one sustained injuries in a fiery crash early Tuesday morning in San Diego.
The crash happened just after 3:00 a.m. on northbound 15 Freeway south of Miramar Way.
A green Pontiac G5 slammed into the back of a big rig and burst into flames. At the scene, pieces of the car were strewn across the freeway. In addition, the front of the vehicle melted and crumpled due to the impact.
The unidentified driver of the Pontiac became trapped inside the burning car and died at the scene.
However, the female passenger got out of the car with injuries to her face and arms, according to the CHP. As a result, paramedics took her to a hospital for proper treatment.
The big rig driver initially called police, CHP said. He was not seriously injured.
All traffic lanes were temporarily closed as crews cleaned up the mess and officers investigated the crash. The road fully reopened before 5:30 a.m.
