Head-on Collision on Highway 94 Kills 1, Causes Brush Fire near Jamul
JAMUL, CA (August 05, 2019) – A man died and another one suffered injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 94 near Jamul Saturday afternoon.
The incident, which also sparked a one-acre brush fire, occurred at about 1:00 p.m. near Vista Sage Lane. The California Highway Patrol said a 2004 Ford Expedition was westbound on Highway 94 when it hit a guardrail on the north side of the road, and subsequently collided head-on with an eastbound 2006 Toyota.
As a result, the Toyota overturned and went down an embankment. It was then engulfed in flames that started a one-acre brush fire.
The unidentified driver of the Toyota died at the scene.
On the other hand, first responders extricated the driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old Spring Valley man, from the vehicle. They took him to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego with major injuries.
Cal Fire reported that they contained 75 percent of the fire by 5 p.m. Officials closed Highway 94 and reopened it at about 5:45 p.m.
Further investigation of the collision is underway.
We offer our most heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the victim.
