Richrove Man Dies After Crash on Cecil Avenue in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (June 21, 2024) – A 20-year-old man from Richgrove died, and a 23-year-old woman from McFarland is in the hospital after a crash on Cecil Avenue early Friday morning. 

The California Highway Patrol reported that on June 21, 2024, at around 3:05 a.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near Famoso Porterville Highway and Cecil Avenue.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a Toyota was traveling eastbound on Cecil Avenue approaching Famoso Porterville Highway at an unknown speed.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old McFarland woman, driving a Honda, was heading southbound on Famoso Porterville Highway at about 60 to 65 mph.

A stop sign for eastbound and westbound travel at this location controls Cecil Avenue. For unknown reasons, the 20-year-old Richgrove man driving the Toyota made a northbound turn onto Famoso Porterville Highway, directly into the path of the Honda, causing the collision.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical. 

The use of alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, according to CHP.
