Injuries Reported in Lompoc Auto Accident on Black Road and Dutard Street
LOMPOC, CA (December 9, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, a custody deputy and 2 inmates suffered injuries in a starting traffic crash on Black Road.
The incident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. on Black Road and Dutard Street.
According to reports, two custody deputies were transporting two inmates from Lompoc Court to the Northern Branch Jail. However, the custody deputy driving the jail van tried to pass a slow-moving semi-truck. Then, it suddenly turned left.
Thus, the van driver took evasive action and came to rest on the shoulder of the road after hitting an embankment.
Meanwhile, County Fire responded and pried the door to open as the rails were damaged and unable to slide.
Afterward, responders took the two inmates and one custody deputy to an area hospital for examination and treatment of minor injuries. Within hours, they were released.
Moreover, the other custody deputy suffered no injuries in the crash.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
