1 Person Hospitalized After Hot-Air Balloon Crash in Rio Rancho

Rio Rancho, NM (October 9, 2024) – A hot-air balloon crash in Rio Rancho on Wednesday morning, leaving one person injured. 

The balloon was attempting to land at the old golf course when it struck a large tree in the area, according to Rio Rancho Police. 

The gondola became lodged 25 feet above the ground, with two people inside at the time of the crash.

Fire and rescue teams responded promptly, safely rescuing the two individuals from the gondola. 

One of them was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the passenger lost consciousness after hitting their head during the incident.
