Jose Reynoso Macario Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash on East Kern in Taft

Taft, CA (November 21, 2024) – Police arrested a man on felony drunk driving and hit-and-run charges following a crash on East Kern and Highway 119 on Wednesday afternoon. 

Taft Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jose Reynoso Macario, who fled the scene but was detained by city employees on the 100 block of Adkisson Way.

Authorities confirmed Macario left his wallet, containing his identification, in the front seat of his vehicle before fleeing.

Police reported that Macario was driving a Volkswagen and attempted to turn westbound onto East Kern Street when he collided with a Mercedes. 

The driver of the Mercedes sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield for treatment.

Macario and a passenger, detained by witnesses at Veterans Memorial Park, were not injured in the crash. 

The collision also knocked down a light pole and damaged a fence.

Macario is currently being held in Lerdo Jail on $51,000 bail.

In addition to the felony charges, he faces charges for driving without a license and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
