Fiery Crash on Cajon Pass Injures One Person, Causes Hazmat Incident
PHELAN, CA (July 2, 2019) – A fiery crash on the Cajon Pass left one person injured around midnight on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on the southbound 15 Freeway near Cleghorn Road. Aside from the injuries, the crash also caused a hazmat incident. The cab of a big rig carrying diesel fuel became fully engulfed in flames after the crash.
One person sustained injuries and was taken to an area hospital. However, the extent of the injuries was unknown. On the other hand, the truck driver was not injured.
Officers do not believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. They said one of the drivers may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The crash prompted officials to shut all the lanes of the 15 Freeway down. As a result, traffic was backed up for several miles. They reopened the freeway at around 9 a.m.
Further investigation of the crash is ongoing.
Driver fatigue significantly increases the risk of a road accident. Safely pull over and rest before continuing to drive if you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason. It is important not to place yourself in a situation that involves driving when you feel tired and sleepy. It impairs your ability to respond quickly and safely if a dangerous situation arises while you are on the road.
