1 Hurt in Lakehead Car Collision on 5 Freeway

 
LAKEHEAD, CA (December 17, 2019) – A person sustained injuries while a dog died after a van and big rig collision on 5 Freeway.
 
The incident led authorities to shut down one lane of southbound 5 Freeway after 8:00 a.m. Reports revealed that the van hit the rear of a big rig. The truck driver traveled at 20 mph in the far right lane of 5 Freeway near Lakeshore Drive when the van hit the big rig on its back end.
 
The crash trapped the van driver until emergency crews arrived and free him. Responders took him to the hospital with broken legs. Meanwhile, the big rig driver didn’t suffer any injury.
 
The dog inside the van died at the scene.
 
By 11:25 a.m., all lanes reopened on 5 Freeway.
