Officer Hits and Injures Pedestrian on Sacramento Street and Allston Way
BERKELEY, CA (July 20, 2021) – Last week, a person suffered injuries in a pedestrian accident on Sacramento Street and Allston Way.
The incident happened at 4:26 p.m. on Sacramento Street and Allston Way.
The authorities found out that the Berkeley officer’s vehicle stopped west at a red light of Allston Way. As it turned green, the officer veered left onto Sacramento. Then, it hit a woman walking in the crosswalk at “approximately 10 mph.”
The woman complained of pain. However, the authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
“While I cannot speak on behalf of CHP’s investigation, I can say that the collision occurred during non-emergency driving conditions, and we regret that the collision happened — resulting in a person being injured,” Berkeley police Officer Byron White stated.
“Every day, the men and women of the Berkeley Police Department make an effort to drive safely and avoid collisions in our community. Although it is a rare occurrence, they still occur from time to time. We very much hope that the person who was injured will have a quick recovery and apologize for the traumatic experience this collision caused.”
Meanwhile, reports confirmed that the victim, a 56-year-old school district employee was walking to a nearby post office when the crash happened.
