Head-on Crash in Stanislaus County Kills 1, Injures Susan Lynn Hooper
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (May 7, 2019) – One person died and another one was hospitalized after a head-on crash on Highway 4 in northernmost Stanislaus County early Monday. The crash occurred near Dunton Road at around 4:40 a.m. according to the Stanislaus County Fire Protection District.
Battalion Chief Eric DeHart said it appeared that a westbound 2018 Subaru Outback was struck by an eastbound 2016 Chevrolet Sonic when it veered into the westbound lane.
Responders found the Copperopolis resident and 26-year-old male driver of the Chevy still in his vehicle but not pinned in. The driver was semi-alert when he was pulled out from the Sonic and loaded onto a helicopter. He was flown to Memorial Medical Center where he died in the emergency room at 7:30 a.m.
The lower extremities of the female driver of the Subaru, identified as 61-year-old Susan Lynn Hooper of Sonora, were trapped within the vehicle. It took approximately 40 minutes to extract her. She was conscious and alert the whole time but was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center due to major injuries to her chest and left leg.
It has yet to be determined whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, the CHP reported.
