CHP Investigates Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 in Newhall

Newhall, CA (June 2, 2023) – Thursday night, a 37-year-old Los Angeles man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5.

The fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Newhall happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 1.

CHP said the collision involved two vehicles — a 2006 BMW 325ci and a 2020 Ford F350 hauling a trailer.  

According to the CHP’s investigation of the crash, the driver of the Ford was moving northbound on the I-5 when he “allowed his vehicle to overtake the BMW.” As he did so, the rear of the BMW was struck by the front of his truck.  

After the collision, the 37-year-old Los Angeles man driving the BMW was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he passed away from his wounds.  

Investigators said alcohol or drugs were not determined to be a factor with the driver of the Ford. 

Further investigation into this crash is ongoing.
