1 Killed, Several Injured in Murrieta Fiery Collision on 215 Freeway
MURRIETA, CA (October 28, 2019) — A fiery multi-vehicle collision on 215 Freeway claimed a person’s life and injured several others Monday morning.
The authorities said the incident happened on southbound 215 Freeway, south of Los Alamos Road, before 6 a.m. Involved were four vehicles: a Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) bus, a 2006 Toyota Tundra, a 2015 Nissan Sentra, and a Ford F-250.
Reports indicated that a 26-year-old Riverside man driving the RTA bus failed to see the stopped traffic. The bus subsequently rear-ended the Tundra which was stopped in the number 1 lane. The impact pushed the Tundra forward and to the right. That’s where it hit the Sentra in the number 1 lane, and then the Ford in the number 2 lane.
The Tundra ended up facing northbound in the southbound lanes. It was also engulfed in flames. The 30-year-old Menifee man driving the Tundra was not able to escape and died at the scene. The officials withheld his name pending notification of his relatives.
On the other hand, a total of seven people suffered injuries in the crash. The bus driver had major injuries, including a fractured hip. The driver and passengers in the Nissan and Ford truck, six people in all, complained of back and neck pain.
