1 Arrested after Deadly Monterey County Wrong-Way Accident on State Route 56 near Carmel Country Road

 
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (July 11, 2021) – Saturday morning, a person died in a DUI crash on State Route 56 near Carmel Country Road.
 
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro, the incident happened at around 1:45 a.m. Moreover, it occurred on eastbound State Route 56, near Carmel Country Road in Carmel Valley.
 
Reports revealed that a silver Honda Civic traveling in the wrong way struck a blue Mazda CX-5.
 
Furthermore, responders confirmed that a passenger of the Honda died in the crash. Officers arrested the 22-year-old San Marcos man driving the Honda after being treated at a hospital with minor injuries.
 
Also, paramedics transported the Mazda driver to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
Moreover, the Honda driver will be facing charges for DUI.
 
Meanwhile, officials closed the freeway to give way to the investigation.
