Driver Killed, 5 Others Hurt in Chowchilla Crash on Highway 152
CHOWCHILLA, CA (May 28, 2019) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 152 near Chowchilla left a male driver dead and four others injured Tuesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 2 p.m. The 22-year-old driver of a 2017 Honda Accord was making a left turn from northbound Highway 152 onto Road 13 and failed to see the oncoming traffic. That’s when a 2016 Honda HRV occupied by five people crashed into the Accord.
The driver of the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. A helicopter took the driver of the HRV to a local hospital due to their critical condition. An ambulance transported the four other occupants of the HRV to a hospital with unknown injuries.
Officers shut down the eastbound shoulder and part of one lane blocked during their investigation. They said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
