Jose Almaraz, Manqi Zhao, Ke Xu and Florence Zhao Injured in San Jose Traffic Accident on Highway 101
SAN JOSE, CA (August 21, 2019) — A man died and four others were injured in a traffic accident on Highway 101 on Saturday, August 17.
California Highway Patrol Gilroy reported that a driver lost control of his vehicle where U.S. Highway 101 and Highway 85 intersect.
The 20-year-old unidentified male driver from San Jose died at San Jose Regional Medical Center.
Of the four injured, 44-year-old Jose Almaraz, of Santa Clara, who rode in the 2014 Kia Forte involved in the accident, was also rushed to San Jose Medical. Paramedics also brought the other three San Jose residents riding in a 2011 Lexus RX350 to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. CHP identified them as 36-year-old Manqi Zhao, 35-year-old Ke Xu, and 6-year-old Florence Zhao.
CHP Gilroy officers rushed to the scene at 4:18 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 at the Highway 85 off-ramp. They determined that the Kia moved at a high rate of speed to the right rear of the Lexus. Then it swerved and struck a concrete divider as well as the Lexus that ended up facing southbound in the northbound lanes.
Officers believe that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the traffic incident, CHP said.
