17-Year-Old Driver Arrested in Woodland Hills Multi-Car Collision
WOODLAND HILLS, CA (April 1, 2019) – One person died and three suffered injuries after a multi-vehicle crash in Woodland Hills on Friday, March 29.
The crash occurred at around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Ventura Boulevard. According to the authorities, the teen driver of a Mercedes-Benz reportedly sped through a red light after driving recklessly for several blocks.
The Los Angeles Police Department said that the suspect then collided into the side of a Toyota Tacoma that killed the driver of the truck. After crashing into the pickup, the Mercedes also hit two SUVs — a Ford Expedition and Lexus RX400h.
Paramedics rushed the suspect and his passenger to Northridge Hospital. A Los Angeles Fire Department statement said that two survivors of the crash suffered serious injuries while another sustained minor injury.
The driver of the Toyota, who succumbed to injuries at the scene, was not immediately identified.
Authorities arrested the 17-year-old boy driving the Mercedes-Benz on suspicion of murder. According to a LAPD statement, the teen driver displayed willful disregard for human life.
Investigators disproved statements from witnesses who said they believed two vehicles were street racing before the incident occurred.
