1 Killed and 2 Hospitalized after Bay Bridge Car Accident
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 31, 2019) – One person died while two others sustained injuries after a box truck and bus collision on 80 Freeway.
The incident between a box truck and a Golden Gate Transit occurred on May 29 and caused multiple injuries. The incident also stalled traffic to a standstill on the Bay Bridge approaching San Francisco.
The CHP came to the scene about 4:30 a.m. on westbound 80 Freeway, east of Treasure Island. Priya David Clemens said that a Golden Gate Transit bus on route 705 headed from BART’s MacArthur Station toward San Francisco when a box truck rear-ended it. Clemens is the spokeswoman for Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.
Clemens added that two bus passengers sustained injuries and went to the hospital.
Furthermore, the box truck landed on its side. The driver got stuck inside the vehicle. Moreover, medics transported two of the three men in the truck to the hospital with serious injuries. CHP spokesman Bert Diaz confirmed that the third man died at the scene.
Officials also revealed that the box truck spilled about 40 gallons of diesel fuel. Hence, authorities shut down multiple lanes of the bridge.
Five hours after the collision, all lanes have since reopened.
