One Killed, Another Hurt in Hit-and-Run Collision in Cupertino
CUPERTINO, CA (October 3, 2019) – One person died and another injured in a hit-and-run collision at Rancho San Antonio Park in Cupertino.
According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the park around 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1. A witness saw a vehicle strike two pedestrians before fleeing from the scene.
Just after 1:00 p.m., officers found the suspect vehicle which appeared to be a black Audi sedan. They also detained the driver.
Deputies stated that paramedics rushed the two victims to the hospital for treatment. One of the victims succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital. The second victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Officers arrested the driver, 50-year-old Mireya Orta, on suspicion of murder and other felonies. Deputies said that paramedics also rushed Orta to the hospital as a precaution. She will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose.
The names of the two victims were not immediately released.
Deputies said the investigation is still ongoing.
