Woman Dies, Man Hospitalized, after Car vs Big Rig Collision in San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 20, 2019) – A woman was killed, and a man was injured, in a collision involving a big rig and a speeding vehicle on northbound 880 Freeway in San Leandro Tuesday morning. The crash was reported at about 10:55 a.m. just north of Floresta Boulevard, authorities said.
According to CHP Officer Manuel Leal, a vehicle was speeding and weaving in and out of lanes when it hit a big rig in the far right lane of the freeway. The female passenger was ejected from the speeding vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the vehicle was taken to a hospital due to a complaint of pain. The big rig driver was not injured, Leal said.
The three right lanes of northbound 880 Freeway remained blocked until about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The crash was under investigation.
