1 Bicycle Rider Injured in Traffic Crash on State Street [Santa Barbara, CA]

Santa Barbara, CA (April 10, 2023) – On Saturday, a bicycle rider sustained injuries following a traffic crash on State Street.

Officers said a Ventura County visitor’s left bike pedal was entangled with the front right wheel of a vehicle that was about to turn right onto Haley Street. 

The bike frame became unlocked from the vehicle and the rider rolled off and landed about 15 feet ahead.

Moreover, the injured rider initially refused to be taken via ambulance to Cottage Hospital. However, his condition continued to decline and his friends drove him to the hospital where they were informed that the victim had ruptured his spleen, has a broken rib, fractured his left cheekbone, and had serious bleeding internally. The bicyclist had gone into surgery and is expected to recover. 

The incident report stated that the victim rider was not wearing a helmet or a bright safety vest when the accident happened.
