9-Year-Old Critical After Solo Vehicle Crash in Kelso

Cowlitz County, WA  (October 6, 2024) – On Sunday, one adult died, and three children sustained injuries in a solo vehicle crash in Kelso.

Reportedly, just before 11 a.m., firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, Longview Fire, and Cowlitz County District 6 responded to a crash where a passenger car had gone off the road and down an embankment.

According to officials, a child managed to exit the vehicle, climb the embankment, and flag down a passing motorist, who then called 911. 

The remaining occupants of the car were trapped and needed to be extricated using heavy equipment.

Two children, ages 2 and 7, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, while a 9-year-old child was airlifted to Portland with multiple injuries.

Tragically, an adult male was found deceased inside the vehicle, according to a press release from officials.

Further investigation to determine the cause of the crash is ongoing.
