Two People Hospitalized after Bicycle Crash near W Cedar Street
EUREKA, CA (June 21, 2018) – Two men were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a bicyclist collided with a loaded logging truck on Broadway Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at around 1:34 PM. 37-year-old Zachary Hebert of Eureka was riding his bicycle approaching West Cedar Street from Broadway Street. As he was attempting to turn, Hebert’s bicycle struck the right rear wheel of a big rig, driven by 55-year-old David Alber of Eureka.
The impact of the collision ejected Hebert from his bicycle and sent him into a nearby covered bus stop, where 64-year-old Steven Crivelli was sitting. Parts of Hebert’s bicycle flew through the bus stop window and into Crivelli’s leg. Hebert reportedly sustained a major head injury, while Crivelli suffered unspecified injuries. Both were transported to St Joseph Hospital for treatment and medical evaluation. Alber was reportedly unharmed in the collision.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing to determine what might have caused the incident to happen. No further details were immediately available to the public.
