Yanelly Lobato Dead, 6 Injured in Two-Vehicle Accident at Highways 156 and 25

HOLLISTER, CA (July 24, 2019) – A 22-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle crash at Highway 156 and Highway 25 Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Yanelly Garcia Lobato died at the scene when paramedics arrived.

The 2:15 a.m. crash unfolded when a 34-year-old Salinas man operating a Ford F-550 truck eastbound on Highway 156 blew through a red light. The Ford collided with a northbound 2001 Ford Crown Victoria traveling north on Highway 25.

According to police, the Crown Victoria driver had a green light at the intersection. As a result of the impact, the Crown Victoria spun out of control before it plowed into a traffic light.

Lobato, who was a passenger in the Crown Victoria, succumbed to her injuries.

Six people—including the 48-year-old male driver—described as Gilroy residents occupied the Crown Victoria. Reports confirmed that the male driver and another female passenger suffered severe injuries and required hospitalization.

Meanwhile, the pickup driver suffered minor injuries.

Although much has been reported, it’s still unclear what led to the accident; however, neither driver was arrested, said police.
