Wrong-Way Driver Causes 10 Freeway Accident, Delays Traffic near Coachella

COACHELLA, CA (July 10, 2019) – A wrong-way driver caused delays in traffic near Coachella after slamming into a big rig in a 10 Freeway accident Tuesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver headed west in the eastbound lanes of the freeway at around 1:20 a.m. near the Chiriaco Summit freeway exit.

The wrong-way vehicle was traveling at 70 miles per hour. The police tried to stop it by setting up spike strips. However, the vehicle eventually crashed head-on into a big rig that was hauling cars near Frontage Road at 1:38 a.m.

The CHP said eastbound freeway traffic was shut down as a result of the 10 Freeway accident. Officials reopened the roadway after the initial investigation and cleanup. No one was injured in the incident as per CHP.
