Car Spinning After Wrong-way Crash on James River Freeway
Springfield, Mo (January 30, 2025) – Police investigate a wrong-way crash on the James River Freeway.
One harrowing incident involved Lindsey Hyde and her two children, who were sent spinning across the highway after being struck by a wrong-way driver near the Campbell exit on Sunday.
Hyde recalled the terrifying moment when the collision occurred. “All I remember is feeling the impact, and then I heard our son start crying and holding his face,” she said. Her immediate concern was checking on her children in the backseat while bracing for another possible hit during the spin.
Grabbing her phone, Hyde made what she described as the “scariest phone call” to her husband, Richard Hyde, who was at work.
By the time he reached the crash site, several strangers had already stopped to assist the family.
“I don’t think it was until I got in my husband’s car, out of the ambulance, that I completely just broke down,” Hyde said, realizing how fortunate they were to walk away from the crash.
The collision involving Hyde is one of several wrong-way driving incidents on the freeway this month.
On January 15, another wrong-way driver sideswiped a red pickup truck, shattering its window.
On January 26, the driver who struck Hyde’s car was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
Just two days later, deputies stopped and arrested another wrong-way driver near James River and Sunshine for DWI.
Reflecting on the incident, Hyde expressed gratitude that her family avoided severe injury. “The hard part was just realizing that they were so close to being hurt, but we all three walked away,” she said.
