1 Dead in Oceanside Train Accident
OCEANSIDE, CA (April 17, 2019) – A woman died after an Amtrak train hit her while she’s walking away from it on April 16 on tracks near Buccaneer Beach.
The fatal collision occurred before 12:00 n.n. near Cassidy Street and Coast Highway 101, Jason Burk of the Sheriff’s Department Transit Enforcement Unit said.
Burk added that the southbound train traveled 65-70 mph when the engineer noticed a white woman walking south along with the railroad ties. The woman, described between the ages of 40 and 50, walked just outside of the railroad track.
“The train sounded its horn and went into emergency braking, but unfortunately fatally struck the female,” Burk stated.
Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police encourage anyone who has information to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200.
