1 Person Dies in Mesquite Multi-Vehicle Accident on 15 Freeway
MESQUITE, NV (May 24, 2020) – A woman died and several people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on 15 Freeway on May 13.
Just before 4:00 p.m., MDT, emergency responders came to a three-vehicle crash on northbound 15 Freeway, around 3 miles north of Mesquite. Due to the serious crash, the Mercy Air and Intermountain Life Flight were also requested to the scene.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper Tom Callister, the responders located a Volkswagen Beetle with three passengers. He added that the female passenger in the front seat died at the scene. She was in her early 20s. Meanwhile, the Beetle’s driver and back-seat passenger suffered minor injuries.
The authorities also located a couple inside a red Nissan Titan. Both of them suffered injuries and were airlifted to Dixie Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
Moreover, the Penske moving truck’s two occupants were uninjured in the crash.
Callister revealed that during the crash, the Nissan was traveling south on 15 Freeway. However, a bird flew in front of the window, and “the driver claimed he swerved to avoid hitting the bird.”
Due to the driver’s sudden move, he lost control of the pickup and steered sharply to the left. The vehicle then drove across the median and into the oncoming northbound traffic where it collided with the moving truck head-on.
