Elida Tooley and 4 Others Injured in Fatal Solo Car Crash near Pit No 1 Powerhouse Road
FALL RIVER MILLS, CA (October 22, 2018) – A woman was killed early Monday evening following a rollover crash on Highway 299. The identity of the 20-year-old victim is being withheld, pending notification of family members.
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 5:35 PM. An SUV was heading west near Pit No 1 Powerhouse Road when it went off the highway and rolled over multiple times.
The victim, who was not secured in a seatbelt, was ejected from the sport utility vehicle. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Meanwhile, the SUV driver, identified as 21-year-old Elida Tooley, and a juvenile passenger were transported to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding with injuries ranging from moderate to major. Updates on their current medical condition were not immediately available.
Three other juvenile passengers were taken to the Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills where they were treated and released. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the authorities as soon as possible. Additional information will be released to the public once it becomes available.
