Mission Fatal Crash Injures Four People
Mission, TX (January 20, 2023) – At 12:46 a.m. on Monday, a woman died while her husband and three children sustained injuries in a Highway 495 DUI collision.
Reports say that an officer noticed a 2004 GMC Yukon traveling at a high rate of speed at the 1000 block of East Solar Drive.
The traffic officer made a U-turn and saw the Yukon missed a red light while southbound on Mayberry Street. The driver ignored the traffic light and struck an eastbound 2015 silver Ford Explorer on Highway 495.
Investigating officers said the Ford has a family of five riding it when the accident happened, a husband and wife and their three children over the ages of 15. Officers said the oldest son was driving to pick up his parents.
The responding crew immediately did CPR on the mother who later died at the scene.
The paramedics rushed the father to a hospital in critical condition. Also, all three children were admitted to the hospital with one of the sons and a daughter needing surgery.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene on foot but was located at around 6 a.m. near Conway Avenue and Highway 495. Officers said he appeared to be intoxicated when they made contact with him.
According to the Mission Police Department, the suspect was transported to the hospital and would be facing charges of intoxication manslaughter, four counts of intoxication assault, and four counts of leaving the scene of an accident, once released.
Investigators said the family and the suspect in this collision are all Mission residents. Officers are investigating the Mission fatal crash.
