Afternoon Head-On Crash in Oro Grande Kills One Driver and Dog

ORO GRANDE, CA (August 19, 2019) – A 69-year-old Helendale woman was killed in a head-on crash Monday afternoon in Oro Grande.

The crash happened around 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of National Trails Highway and Mill Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 60-year-old man was driving a 2017 Mack truck carrying cement south on National Trails Highway while the woman was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro northbound.

For unknown reasons, the woman allowed her vehicle to cross over the solid double yellow lines into the southbound lane. The car collided with the truck head-on.

The impact caused the motor of the Chevrolet to fly out and land several feet away, along with several of the tires. Debris was scattered throughout the roadway.

An air ambulance took the woman to a trauma center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A dog inside the Chevrolet was also killed in the crash and an Animal Control was called to assist.
