Fatal Big Rig Crash near Grant Line Road and Green Road
ELK GROVE, CA (June 12, 2018) – A woman was critically injured in a head-on collision on Wilton Road, early Tuesday afternoon. Her identity was not immediately disclosed to the public.
The collision took place on Wilton near Grant Line and Green Roads, just after 1:00 PM. A big rig filled with dead animals, driven by a 43-year-old Carmichael man, was traveling northbound on Wilton.
At the same time, a 2000 Toyota Avalon was driving in the opposite lane. For unknown reasons, he swerved in front of the garbage truck. Despite his attempts to swerve out of the way, the big rig crashed head-on with the sedan. From the impact of the collision the semi went down an embankment on the side of the road.
Fire personnel had to extricate the driver and female passenger inside of the Toyota. She was pronounced dead on the scene, while the elderly man was taken to Kaiser South Sacramento with major injuries. There is no current update on his condition. No other injuries were reported in the accident.
Both directions of Wilton were shut down between Grant Line and Green, as crews cleaned up the crash site and authorities conducted their investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash, and do not believe that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
Sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the woman killed in this tragic collision. May she rest in peace.
