Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Big Rig on Highway 41 in Lemoore
LEMOORE, CA (January 13, 2020) – A woman was allegedly jaywalking when she was hit and killed by a big rig late Monday afternoon in Lemoore, CHP officials said.
The incident happened around 5:45 p.m. along the southbound lanes of Highway 41 at Hanford Armona Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 34-year-old Arturo Herrera was driving his big rig south on the highway, when he spotted a female pedestrian on the road.
There is a crosswalk at the intersection, but the woman was reportedly not using it to get across the highway.
Herrera tried to swerve to avoid hitting the woman, but ended up hitting her. He immediately pulled over after the crash and fully cooperated with officers.
The woman, who appeared to be between the age of 40 and 50, died at the scene.
Officers do not believe that the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. Further investigation is underway.
