Yvette Herrera Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Wood Street and Lierly Avenue [Taft, CA]

1 Hospitalized after South Taft Accident on Wood Street

 
SOUTH TAFT, CA (May 30, 2020) – Late Thursday afternoon, 21-year-old Yvette Herrera sustained critical injuries after DUI hit-and-run crash on Wood Street.
 
The California Highway Patrol revealed that the suspect also struck two stop signs before hitting the Herrera’s vehicle.
 
The drunk-driving hit-and-run crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on Wood Street and Lierly Avenue in South Taft.
 
Meanwhile, the CHP revealed that Yvette Herrera was driving east on Wood Street and Lierly Avenue.
 
At the same time, the suspect riding a Chevrolet Cruze failed to yield at a stop sight at Wood Street while heading south on Lierly Avenue.
 
The crash pushed both vehicles into the front yard of a resident at 500 Lierly Avenue. Moreover, the suspect escaped on foot.
 

South Taft Accident Aftermath and Investigation

 
The woman was pinned inside the Ford that had crashed through the front porch of the house. The Kern County utilized a chain saw to remove a fallen tree. They also used hydraulic extrication tools to extricate her from the wreckage.
 
She was transported from the scene by a ground ambulance. Then, a helicopter flew her to Kern Medical.
 
She sustained several injuries, a possible broken pelvis, and a broken femur, officers revealed.
 
The Cruze driver reportedly escaped the scene on foot. The Kern County Sheriff’s deputy managed to apprehend him on South Tenth
 
Furthermore, the suspect, Eulogio Lopez Torres, faced charges that include felony DUI and felony hit and run causing injury. His identity wasn’t disclosed by the authorities.
