WINTON, CA – 1 Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash at Shaffer Road and Mercedes Avenue

Morning Head-On Collision on Shaffer Road in Winton Ends in Fatality

 
WINTON, CA (January 10, 2019) – One person was killed and three others were injured following a head-on crash Thursday morning in Winton.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:12 a.m. at the intersection of Shaffer Road and Mercedes Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patol, an SUV was traveling northbound on Shaffer Road in dense fog when the driver decided to pass the car in front. However, when the driver of the SUV moved into the southbound lane, it collided head-on with another vehicle.
 
The driver of that car, only identified as a 65-year-old man, was killed in the crash. His three passengers were hospitalized with unspecified injuries and unknown conditions.
 
Shaffer Road was closed while officers and crews worked on the scene.
 
Drugs and/or alcohol were not being ruled out as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
