80-Year-Old William Laird Ort Dies After Crash on  Ajo Way in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (July 31, 2024) – William Laird Ort, an 80-year-old man, died from his injuries on Saturday after being struck while riding his motorcycle on Tucson’s south side on July 22. 

Ort was traveling eastbound on Ajo Way around 3 p.m. and attempting to turn left onto northbound South Sixth Avenue when a westbound Jeep Cherokee struck him. 

The 36-year-old female driver of the Cherokee was not injured. 

Ort was transported to Banner University Medical Center with initially non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Jeep’s driver received a citation for failing to stop for a red light, while Ort was cited for failing to yield to traffic while making a left turn. 

Unfortunately, Ort’s condition worsened, and he died from his injuries on July 27. The investigation is ongoing.
