Wilfredo Escobar Detained After Fleeing Multi-Vehicle Crash That Injured Passenger on South Central Avenue Near East 33rd Street

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 19, 2019) – One person was injured in a hit-and-run DUI crash on South Central Avenue near East 33rd Street Friday morning.

Wilfredo Vaquiz Escobar was driving a white 2017 Honda Accord with six passengers inside around 2:40 a.m. The car traveled southbound along South Central Avenue near East 33rd Street when Escobar lost control and, per surveillance video footage, spun out approximately four times. Because of this, the Accord struck several parked cars.

One of the passengers inside the Honda was ejected from the vehicle and slid about 80 feet before landing in the No. 2 lane.

Up to six vehicles were either significantly damaged or destroyed. Authorities arrived shortly after and determined that Escobar fled in an attempt to hide that he was impaired at the time of the accident.

He was subsequently booked on suspicion of felony DUI causing injuries with a bail set at $100,000.

The identity of the injured victim was not available.

Drunk driving is never a good choice. Depend on alternative ways of transportation if you are under the influence of any kind. This can help prevent causing harming to others on the road. Keep this in mind the next time you think about drinking and driving.
