NORTH COUNTY, CA (August 19, 2019) – Authorities identified 85-year-old Wade Akle of Los Osos as the bicyclist injured in an accident on Highway 41.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened just east of Atascadero city limits. The victim was eastbound on his BLIX Electric bicycle when he suffered an unknown medical emergency and fell off his bike.

Unable to brace himself from the fall, he struck his face onto the paved shoulder. Despite the protection from his bicycle helmet, he still suffered major head trauma. Emergency responders rushed the victim to Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo, where he underwent surgery. As of Wednesday, he remains in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

If you find yourself in the middle of a medical emergency, immediately pull over to the side of the road. Strictly follow the rules of the road and do not attempt to drive when symptoms start to show. This way, you can prevent dangerous accidents.
