Kai Eugene Kelikuli Critically Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision near Yosemite Springs Parkway
COARSEGOLD, CA (June 30, 2018) – A woman was killed Saturday afternoon and a man was critically injured following a head-on crash near Yosemite Springs Parkway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at about 4:00 PM. A 2015 Volkswagen, driven by 49-year-old Kai Eugene Kelikuli, of Santa Maria, was heading north on Highway 41 and going over the posted speed limit of 55 mph.
In an attempt to pass a slower vehicle, he went into the southbound lane. There he collided head-on with a 2007 Chevy SUV, driven by 30-year-old Victoria Marie Gomez of Fresno.
The impact of the collision sent both cars careening onto the west shoulder of the road. Kelikuli, who was not secured in a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle, onto the roadway. He was airlifted to the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno after suffering major injuries. Gomez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol was ruled out as a possible factor in the deadly collision, but drug impairment is still being investigated. Criminal charges against Kelikuli will be considered following the conclusion of the investigation. No other information has been released to the public at this time.
