Victor Marmulejo-Caurenta and Two Others Killed in 81st Avenue Big Rig Collision [Oasis, CA]

Oasis, CA (January 15, 2023) – On Saturday, Victor Marmulejo-Caurenta, 24, of Coachella, Matteo Robledo-Felix, 7, and Ariadne Robledo-Felix, 6, both of Thermal, and two other people, died in an 81st Avenue big rig collision.

The fatal collision occurred at around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection with State Route 86 near the Salton Sea.

According to the investigating officers, an eastbound Jetta on 81st Avenue entered the intersection. At the same time, a big rig was southbound on State Route 86.

Reports say the Jetta did not yield to the big rig causing the semi to collide with the Jetta’s left side. Reports say it was not determined why the Jetta entered the intersection without yielding.

Moreover, the Riverside County Fire Department said Jetta’s occupants were trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. However, all five occupants were later declared dead at the scene.

Some of the victims’ names have yet to be released by the Riverside County Coroner. CHP said the driver was a 26-year-old woman from Thermal.

Meanwhile, the big rig driver did not sustain injury from the collision. The authorities determined that the big rig driver was not under-the-influence at the time of the fatal collision. Though, it did not say if the same assessment had been made about the Jetta driver.

CHP is doing a further investigation on the Oasis traffic collision.
