30-Year-Old Sunnyvale Motorcyclist Collides with Big Rig near Cochrane Road
MORGAN HILL, CA (August 17, 2018) – A woman was killed Friday afternoon following a motorcycle accident near Cochrane Road. The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Sunnyvale resident Vanessa Rodriguez.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez was riding a Honda motorcycle south on Highway 101 at about 2:20 PM. While “lane-splitting” between traffic lanes, she slammed into the rear of a big rig.
The motorcyclist became entangled in the rear axles of the trailer and was dragged about 300 feet before the vehicle stopped. Despite CPR efforts, Rodriguez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the big rig driver, 62-year-old Bloomington resident Pedro Vargas, remained at the scene. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Vanessa Rodriguez. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this trying time. May she rest in peace.
