30-Year-Old Hayfork Motorcyclist Fatally Struck by Mini Van on Lower Springs Road

 
REDDING, CA (October 10, 2018) – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 299, late Wednesday morning. The deceased victim was later identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s office as 30-year-old Ulysses Allen Jones of Hayfork.
 
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 10:45 AM.
 
A mini-van, driven by 81-year-old Neil Babcock of Redding, was making a left turn onto Lower Springs Road when it pulled in front of a motorcycle, ridden by Jones.
 
The motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Babcock was not injured in the collision and remained at the scene to cooperate with the authorities during their investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
 
Traffic was blocked in the area as cleanup and preliminary investigation took place, and a detour was available through Iron Mountain Road. Both directions of Highway 299 are shut down during the investigation. No furthers details have been disclosed to the public.
