Driver and Passenger Critical after Multi-Vehicle Collision in Cliff Drive Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA (May 7, 2020)– Thursday early morning, two unidentified women sustained severe injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on the 1500 block of Cliff Drive.

Santa Barbara police responded upon receiving crash reports at around 1 a.m. on May 7. Dispatched officers arrived and located three sprawled vehicles on the scene.

Reportedly, a Land Rover was eastbound on Cliff at a high rate of speed when it clipped a parked Volvo station wagon, then slammed into a parked Scion sedan. Moreover, the two parked vehicles were empty when the collision occurred.

As a result of the extreme impact, the Land Rover had severe damage, and its two occupants were extricated from the wreckage. They were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police say impairment and speed appear to be major contributing factors to the collision. At this time, the investigation continues. The identities of both involved remain undisclosed.

Furthermore, officers closed the area between Santa Cruz Boulevard and Salida del Sol until the afternoon during preliminary duties.
